Youth and Gender Inclusion

Creating an enabling environment and equal opportunities, for men, women and youth (both young men and young women) through meaningful participation in agriculture.

What does this skill involve?

Activities may include, but not limited to:

  • Community, (household, family, stakeholder) engagement and dialogue – awareness raising.
  • Collecting age and sex disaggregated data.
  • Behaviour change initiatives. Intentional inclusion of youth in agri-business opportunities.
  • Clearly defined criteria for mobilisation and selection of participants to ensure equal representation and opportunity.
  • Take a youth and gender targeted approach to all initiatives including the intentional inclusion of youth in agri-business opportunities.
  • Moving from awareness and inclusion to gender and youth transformative approaches that embed social inclusion from design to completion.
  • Gender, youth and social inclusion analysis to identify barriers to, and opportunities for, meaningful engagement of men, women and youth.

Skill levels

Follows instructions pertaining to gender and youth considerations in agriculture

Works in a team to integrate youth and gender by applying the basics of youth and gender inclusion in agriculture

Demonstrates ability to independently identify barriers to, and opportunities for, youth and gender inclusion.

Takes intentional initiative to support youth and gender inclusion in agriculture projects by integrating intersectional approaches to youth and gender.

Leads teams to mainstream youth and gender. Influences teams to take an intersectional approach to youth and gender inclusion in projects and programmes

Leads policy and transformative system change, influences a wide range of stakeholders (including partners, government ministries and private sector actors) on policy reform for youth and gender across development programmes. Provides advice to relevant agriculture stakeholders on youth and gender inclusion.
