Skill levels

Uses simple farm equipment following instructions to perform tasks. Keeps farm equipment safely in designated storage. Keeps machinery clean and oiled. Can recognise when machinery is malfunctioning.

Uses farm equipment to perform simple to less complex farm tasks. Fix simple tools and equipment technical issues. Determines when to seek guidance and assistance for complex tasks.

Operates farm tools, equipment and machines and successfully accomplishes complex tasks. Uses farm machinery professionally and keeps them in good condition. Communicate which tools, equipment and machinery are needed on the farm. Fixes simple to relatively complex farm equipment technical issues and communicates the need for complex repairing services.

Sets guidance on safe practices, maintenance and use of farm machinery. Monitors the performance of farm machinery and advises on their best management to perform optimum work on the farm. Provides technical training on operating, maintenance and effective use of farm equipment.

Ensures that appropriate machinery for specific tasks are available and makes decisions to procure new machinery. Manages the mechanisation operation. Develops standard operating procedures for farm machinery and related processes.

Plans and influences wide scale mechanisation. Analyses the mechanisation and machinery business ecosystem and proposes ways to improve on current situations. Advocates for appropriate policies regarding mechanisation. Collaborates with appropriate organisations to improve, innovate and diversify the farm mechanisation industry.

Leads wide scale initiatives to set strategies and policies to enhance farm mechanisation. Collects and understands ideas from different players in the machinery value chain and facilitates the deployment and adoption. Facilitates the organisation of events and conferences for learning exchanges among the industry players. Mobilises adequate resources for mechanisation development.
