Agriculture Chemical Management

Managing and using chemicals used in agriculture.

What does this skill involve?

Activities may include but are not limited to:

  • Transporting and storing agriculture chemical including fertilisers, pesticides, fungicides and herbicides
  • Ensuring safety of chemical during transportation, storage and usage
  • Preparation and maintenance of storage facilities
  • Developing guiding documents on handling of agricultural chemicals
  • Regulation of agro-chemical dealership
  • Setting policies and laws related to agricultural chemicals

Skill levels

Level 1 - Follow

Transports, stores and uses agricultural chemicals under instruction. Identifies unsafe practices and alerts others.

Level 2 - Assist

Applies safe and appropriate handling practices with common chemicals. Assists in arrangement of chemical storage facilities. Safely arranges the transport of agriculture chemicals. Reads and understands basic product labels.

Level 3 - Apply

Participates in developing small-scale standard operating procedures for chemical handling management. Reports cases that could lead to unsafe handling of chemicals. Selects appropriate facilities for transport or storage.

Level 4 - Enable

Fixes situations and practices that could be unsafe. Provides small-scale capacity building to others on safe and appropriate management of agriculture chemicals. Leads on the safe, local storage of agricultural chemicals.

Level 5 - Ensure, Advise

Has an extensive knowledge and experience of agricultural chemical management. Develops wide-scale standard operating procedures for the management of agriculture chemicals, based on up-to-date knowledge of regulations and the science. Ensures that policies and strategies are implemented effectively. Works with the business ecosystem players to design standards and licensing procedures for agriculture chemical dealers.

Level 6 - Initiate, Influence

Influences wide-scale strategies and policies for the agriculture chemical industry. Initiates the development of relevant industry partnerships.

Level 7 - Set strategy, Inspire, Mobilise

Sets wide-scale strategies and policies related to agricultural chemical management that takes into account economic, environmental and health outcomes. Leads the development of relevant industry partnerships.
