- Designing farming methods to keep the soil productive and healthy
- Applying farming technologies that fits the applied cropping system
- Managing cropping activities to ensure economic and environmental sustainability
- Production of extension materials to enhance the skills of farmers regarding farming methods
Skill levels
Level 2 - Assist
Demonstrates basic knowledge on farming methods that keep soil productive and healthy. Applies agreed cropping strategies with routine guidance. Demonstrates basic knowledge about crop families.
Level 3 - Apply
Demonstrates advanced knowledge of crop families. Understands and applies cropping practices that keep the land productive and healthy.
Level 4 - Enable
Plans a cropping regime suitable for the conditions of the land and available resources. Monitors the implementation of the cropping regime. Provides information on the previous few years’ crops and their locations. Provides technical knowledge transfer to others for a wider understanding and adoption of efficient farming techniques.
Level 5 - Ensure, Advise
Provides advice on effective and environmentally-friendly cropping systems for the local area and market requirements. Leads the production of communication materials for a wide audience to encourage effective cropping strategies.
Level 6 - Initiate, Influence
Monitors regional cropping systems and reports on production methods and yields under various methods. Monitors environmental impact and reports accordingly. Provides evidence for those setting policy.
Level 7 - Set strategy, Inspire, Mobilise
Works on a wide scale to promote appropriate cropping methods. Sets cropping policy and practices that are based on scientific evidence.
