Nutrient Deficiency Management

Recognising and controlling crop nutrient deficiencies.

What does this skill involve?

Activities may include but are not limited to:

  • Touring the farm checking crop health
  • Applying appropriate practices to correct nutrient deficiency
  • Monitor soil nutrient status over a period of time
  • Recommend effective solutions to nutrient deficiency
  • Capacity building of farmers on management of nutrient deficiency

Skill levels

Level 2 - Assist

Recognises the common symptoms of mineral deficiency based on the appearance of plants and the distribution of symptoms within the field.

Level 3 - Apply

Notices nutrient deficiency in crops through observed unusual symptoms of mineral deficiency. Corrects the nutrient deficiency through the application of appropriate products.

Level 4 - Enable

Assesses the cause of nutrient deficiency and takes action to correct the deficiency where possible. Provides capacity building to others to understand crop nutrient deficiency.

Level 5 - Ensure, Advise

Monitors soil nutrient deficiency over a period of years and spots patterns so that action can be taken to rectify the cause of the deficiencies. Manages crop nutrition on the farm.

Level 6 - Initiate, Influence

Leads the production of communication materials for a wide audience to encourage effective nutrient management.
