What does this skill involve?
Activities may include but are not limited to:
- Organising items in the stock
- Identifying and labelling locations for storing specific items
- Signing delivery receipts and accepting inventory deliveries
- Inventory count
- Inspecting the storage conditions and adjusting temperature and humidity to keep the products/produce in good condition
- Ensure stock/produce is held securely
Skill levels
Follows instructions on physically lifting and moving stock/produce.
Assists in recording products in the store and arranges them according to a system. Has basic skills in inventory management/stock control. Monitors stock levels and will rotate stock with regard to use by dates. Will monitor produce in store so as to ensure it is not deteriorating.
Performs routine stock purchases according to seasonal variation and predicted needs. Keeps detailed records of goods incoming and outgoing.
Evaluates alternative suppliers with regard to price, quality and reliability. Sells produce depending on its longevity and the price offered. Acts to prevent spoilage of produce.
Runs the whole stock management process. May speculate on prices by purchasing in advance of requirement or selling in advance of products being available.
