Field Trials

Managing the processes of planning, conducting and reporting field based agriculture technologies demonstration activities.

What does this skill involve?

Activities may include but are not limited to:

  • Designing field demonstration plots
  • Setting up and monitoring of demonstration activities
  • Collecting and analysing data from the field demonstrations
  • Facilitating farmers’ adoption of demonstrated technologies

Skill levels

Assists with basic work like tending field plots, putting up fences, mowing between plots, and putting up signs relating to the various varieties or inputs.

Designs simple field trials to demonstrate new technologies (such as seeds, fertilisers and cultivation technologies). Explains to farmers the rationale of trials and helps them to adopt these practices on their farms.

Designs complex field trials to demonstrate new technologies. Trains colleagues on how to prepare demonstrations of technologies for a wider adoption. Collects and analyses demonstration plots data.

Advises on how to create quality field demonstration trials. Aggregates results from multiple trials. Promotes the need for field demonstrations.
